Asbestos Encapsulation

Asbestos management

Protective encapsulation for suitable asbestos-containing materials.

Where suitable asbestos-containing material is in a condition and location that allows it to remain safely in place, encapsulation can form part of an ongoing asbestos-management strategy.

Our team can review the asbestos survey, material condition, location and project requirements before an encapsulation approach is considered. The chosen system and preparation method need to suit the material and the environment in which it will remain.

Condition review

The material, surface condition, accessibility and surrounding area are considered before an encapsulation method is selected.

Surface preparation

Suitable preparation and controlled working methods support effective application while avoiding unnecessary disturbance.

Specialist coating systems

Purpose-designed encapsulant systems can be used to seal and protect appropriate asbestos-containing materials.

Ongoing management

Encapsulated asbestos should remain recorded, identified and included within the property’s asbestos-management arrangements.

Encapsulation or removal?

The appropriate choice depends on the material, its condition, future access, planned refurbishment and the client’s wider management strategy. Where future works are likely to disturb the material, removal may be more appropriate. Where the material can remain safely in place, encapsulation may offer a practical management option.

Asbestos encapsulation — common questions

Can all asbestos be encapsulated?

No. Suitability depends on the asbestos-containing material, its condition, location and how the area will be used or maintained in future.

Does encapsulation remove the need for asbestos management?

No. Material that remains in place should continue to be identified and managed as part of the building’s asbestos-management arrangements.

Can I send photographs and a survey for review?

Yes. Send the survey, photographs and project information so our estimating team can review whether encapsulation may be appropriate.
